Christmas

Well Christmas is all most here and as always I'm not ready.  I'm still knitting got another hat to Finnish. And I feel like I'll never get done with the sewing. I'm making robes and night gowns this year for the little girls in my life and jackets and shirt for the boys. The ladies are getting bed jackets. I don't know where I got this great idea to make everything for Christmas, but I just don't like those cheep store bought items and how many toys do kid really need? The men are the hardest so they'll probably end up with homemade cookies and candy. Well better get off here got a lot to get done and so little time to do it in.
Oh ya I did get my Christmas gift already!!!  A new spinning wheel, chair and lazy Kate with 4 bobbins. The wheel was broken when I got it but I know that when I ordered it. But a friend of mine made me the parts it needed and presto it works like a charm. Now I need some more wool to spinnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.

Wish List

OK I know it's not Christmas yet ,but I've seen some neat things I want. First I was in e-bay and found a Spinning chair hand carved from the UK now there's something to wish for. Then I was on Raverly and read about knitting bowles, they are so beautiful and I love bowles of many colors. Wounder if I could make one? Now there's a thought! I've been home for too many days, I need to get out. Cause I already bought 4 books and a pair of wooden shoes to ware with my reenactment outfits.

What a Month

Where do I start it's been over a month! Frances and I had a lot of sewing to do to get ready for her fall run to the reenactments up north. But we did it and off to Fort Louden Tenn. we went. What a great time I can't wait to go again. I sat under a tree and was spinning most of the time everyone seemed to enjoy stopping to see how it is done. I even think a few were on there way to becoming spinners. I had a little girl who spent allot of time with me and I bet I know what she wants for Christmas. I got to try my hand at a drop spindle too, and I need allot of help in that area, not as easy as it looks. We no sooner got back and finished up on some sewing that needed to be done before Frances was off again and I was on my way to Ill. to my class reunion and to the 100 car pile up with my husband. The Class reunion was so much fun got to see allot of my old class mates and reconnect with some old friends. We all ended up town at the Old Town Tap where I got to see even more people, it was quite late when I arrived home, but what a great time. Then onto the Pile up and boy was it cold. On Friday night we went to see my nephews play at the pre-party. They were great! but cold it was outside. Berrrr. The next morning we got up and went to the car show not much warmer. We sat in line for 2hours waiting to get in the gate. The show was so big this year they couldn't get everyone in. So there were allot of people who had to go home after waiting so long. There were 1500 cars and thousdens of people. I don't think I'll go next year. Too cold and too many people. On Tuesday we headed home. Just a 32 hour bus ride. Not too many layovers so it wasn't as bad as going up and 6hours in Nashville in the middle of the night, on metal seats and a lot of people waiting for there next ride. Anyway I'm rested and back to sewing. We've got allot to get done before the next event. Frances is off to the next event and I'm home sewing on some orders that need to be filled before the December and January events. I took yesterday off to do some carding and spinning. I'm working with cashmere, what fun hope to have it ready to knit by the end of the week. I've all so been knitting socks or at least trying too. My first one was OK, but it sure didn't look right. Now I'm trying 2 at a time. Looking good so far.

She Learned To Knit

She learned to knit on Monday
her stitches were all very fine.
She forgot to thaw out dinner.
So we went out to dine.

She knitted toys on Tuesday
She says they are a must.
They really were quite lovely.
But she forgot to dust.

On Wednesday it was a sampler.
She says's knitting's fun.
What highlight! What Shadows!
But the laundry wasn't done.

Nine squared were on Thursday-
Green, yellow,blue and red.
I guess she was really engrossed.
She never made the bed.

It was knee rugs and afghans on Friday
In colors she adores.
It never bothered her at all,
that crumbs were on the floor.

I found a maid on Saturday
My week is now complete
My wife can knit the hours away;
The house will still be neat.

Well, now it's only Sunday
I think I'm about to wilt,
I cursed, I Raved I Ranted
Cause the MAID has learned to KNIT.

Sontag Kay's Tess D'Uberville Shawl

I searched the web inside out looking for a Sontag shawl and was so happy to run across this one.
I am going to help a friend sell her items we make at reenactment's around the USA so I wanted something to go with my outfits when the weather gets cold.
This is just a sample, when I get done I will try my hand a spinning my own yarn from wool and knitting one form what I make. I want it to be as close to what they had back in the early 1800's.
Thank You Kay for making this available to everyone for free.

Years Gone By

Years Gone By
Years have gone by day by day.
Wishing childhood would come another day.
Wisp of gray in our hair.
A wrinkle or two or could it be a chin or two?
So fast and furious have the years gone by...
That we hit our 50's in a blink of an eye.
As balding men and menopause woman
We took our youthful look for granted.
We always thought our bodies and mind would remain same
Is that insane?
We have always been told....
We are to age gracefully...
Is that so?...
Oh...I will not go...
We can get....
Tummy tucks
Eye lifts
Liposuction
Laser peel
and diet pills
We can get breast implants
And even....penile implants.
That facts remain hard and true
We are no longer youthful....
this is true
We have reach an age that wisdom is the truth
However...
the fact remains we are still young at heart

House of Sickness

It's made it threw the whole family almost just my hubby hasn't gotten the sickness yet. I finally went to Doc after 11 day and of course I'll feel better in a few days he said. Then I took Hannah cause she just wasn't pulling out of it like Luke and Ray Ray, got some meds and there was a smile on here face the next day. My son-in-law came home from work yesterday with it and the baby started with it last night. My daughter has been running in circles so I don't think she'll get it until everyone else is better. Isn't that the way it happen for moms. I've tried knitting and spinning, but was to sick to sit up for very long so just watched TV and played video games with the kid to help out with them. But I'm ready to get back into the swing of things.

Good Morning all,
We had a wonderful 4th, we cooked out and the kids went to see the fireworks. I've been sick now for 9 days not sure with what, but ready to see the Doc. Feels like a flu bug. I've done some spinning, but not to much get to weak to sit up for a long time.
I'm working on a sweater for my granddaughter, the little one on the end, but haven't done any knitting either. And now the older girl is sick too. I sure hope the other 3 don't get it,especially the baby, she's only 5 weeks old.

Happy Fourth Of July

Well we've jumped into a new month and I love this month cause we start it out with fire works and end it with 1/2 way to Christmas. So by the end of the month  we can start our shopping for Christmas. Sound like fun yet? OK I know I'm a little strange but we all have things we love and these are two of my favorite things.

OK Ladies it was nice to see you Thursday night.  Sorry I was out of it, but this flu bug sure has a hold of me bad. Made it threw Thursday, but Friday I was down all day. Don't feel to bad today, sure hope it holds out all day would love to go to the fire works tonight. And back to Frances to sew on Monday.

Believe it or not my parts still haven't come yet for my spinning wheel, but I was able to get my wheel to spin and I took it to the library Thursday. I just love my new friends they both told me how well I was doing. But Cathy is great I said "Maybe by the time I get threw this lb. of fiber I'll have it down pat", and she said " no it will take you at least 2 lb.". You got to love her. And I'm hoping the new parts will help. I have things rigged to work now.

Spinning in Lithuania

Wow!
To my surprise a friend handed me the spin-off magazine yesterday and as I was looking threw it, there is was an artical on Spinning in Lithuania. What a wounderful story about the history of spinning in lithuania.
And the dates is set for the Southern Animal Fiber Fair, Frances and I will be heading to the show in Oct. I still half to look and see what classes I would like to take, but I'm sure I would want to take them all, being new to all this. The Web site to this event saffsite.org if any one else is interested.

My First Entry (My Spinning Wheel)

I have never blogged before, but would like to give it a try. I love to do crafts and most of then are the old way of doing things.
I recently ordered a spinning wheel form Lithuanian, it was made during WWII when all most every home had one.
Well it arrived, broken. I guess it didn't like it's flight to the USA.
But the man I got the wheel from is sending me new parts. Hope they make it and fit.
I took the broken parts the other day and got me some wood glue and fixed them the best I could. My husband had to bend the shaft back in place for me, but all in all it worked.
So I'm up and spinning
Still waiting on the unbroken part, hoping it will make the spinning better, my luck it just me and I have allot to learn.
